Choose the event before the lodging
A major festival changes traffic, parking and room availability. Pick your dates, decide whether the festival is central to your trip, and book a base that works for both your event and winery plans.
Ellijay in October
The Georgia Apple Festival lists October 10–11 and 17–18 for 2026. If you want both the festival and a winery afternoon, split them across different days or leave a generous transition. Rural vineyard roads and downtown festival traffic are different parts of the journey.
Dahlonega in October
Gold Rush Days is scheduled for October 17–18, 2026. A downtown stay may be useful for the festival, while winery visits still need their own transportation. Confirm parking and access instructions with your lodging host.
Hiawassee in October
The Georgia Mountain Fall Festival lists October 9–11 and 15–17, 2026. Review the daily program before buying tickets because concerts and other attractions vary by date. Do not treat the gap between the two blocks as festival days.
Winery events need separate bookings
A harvest dinner, evening concert or themed tasting may have its own ticket and cancellation rules. Our event guide links to organizer pages so you can check availability directly. A winery being open is not the same as an event having seats available.
Leave room for the season
Pack layers and plan for rain. Leaf color and weather vary, so choose a weekend you would enjoy even without a perfect view. Book a good meal, allow time for your favorite winery and keep one part of the trip unscheduled.
