Tallulah Gorge Rim Trails

A moderate, overlook-focused alternative to the gorge floor, with a separate permit system and stricter access rules for deeper routes.

The official map rates the 3-mile rim route moderate, with mulch, exposed roots, inclines and stairs. The separate Hurricane Falls loop is difficult and includes 1,099 stairs; the separate gorge-floor route is very difficult and not recommended for children 8 or younger. Reviewed September 23, 2026. The park publishes a live staircase-access check and lists 2026 water releases beginning September 26–27; gorge-floor hiking and the southside staircase close during releases. Check the official notice on the day of travel.

The paved trail is short but very steep. Wear walking shoes and use extra caution when the surface is wet, icy, leaf-covered or crowded. The route is unlit outside staffed hours; visitors should carry a light and prepare for colder, windier and rapidly changing summit weather. Reviewed September 30, 2026. No day-of trail, road, elevator, facility or shuttle status is asserted here. Check the official hours, site alerts, weather and webcams before driving the steep approach road.

Iron Hill Trail at Red Top Mountain

A moderate 3.9-mile gravel loop for hikers and bicyclists along Lake Allatoona and through Red Top Mountain's historic iron-mining landscape.

The gravel loop is shared by hikers and bicycles. Stay on the designated route, watch for two-way trail traffic and use footwear suitable for gravel, roots and lake-edge terrain. The official trail page publishes no minimum age. Reviewed September 30, 2026. The park page carries a possible blue-green-algae advisory for Lake Allatoona; that water notice is not represented here as a trail closure. No day-of trail status is asserted—check the official park and trail notices before leaving.

Amicalola Falls West Ridge Access

The short, paved public trail to a middle view of Amicalola Falls, distinct from the park's staircase and longer backcountry routes.

The current map marks the 0.3-mile West Ridge Falls Access route as paved and ADA accessible. This profile does not describe the separate 425-step descent, the East Ridge Trail or the 8.3-mile Appalachian Approach Trail. Reviewed September 30, 2026. The park currently reports the separate East Ridge Trail closed for maintenance. West Ridge Falls Access remains identified on the current official map, but check the official park notice before departure.
