Public state-park trail. No hiking reservation or trail permit is published for Iron Hill. A Georgia State Parks ParkPass is required for each vehicle; buy it through the park system or at the park as directed.

The dedicated Iron Hill parking lot is off Red Top Mountain Road, on the right about half a mile past the campground. Follow the directional signs from the lot to the trailhead rather than starting at the main visitor center.
Season & current access
The park presents Iron Hill as a public trail rather than a seasonal guided activity. Weather, maintenance, special events or land-management notices can still affect access, so check the park page before travel.
Age, skill & route requirements
The gravel loop is shared by hikers and bicycles. Stay on the designated route, watch for two-way trail traffic and use footwear suitable for gravel, roots and lake-edge terrain. The official trail page publishes no minimum age.
3.9-mile gravel loop, rated moderate by Georgia State Parks. The main park overview rounds it to 4 miles. This profile does not combine Iron Hill with the park's separate Homestead, Sweetgum, White Tail or paved lakeside trails.
Fit it into a wine weekend
Hike in the morning, then cool down and have lunch before a Cartersville, White or Acworth winery visit. Leave enough time for the full loop instead of treating it as a quick overlook stop.
