Access type

State-park equipment rental & public lake access. The official paddling page does not publish an advance-reservation process. Contact the visitor center to confirm rental operation, equipment and check-in for the intended date. A Georgia State Parks ParkPass is required for each vehicle.

Check with the visitor center before unloading rental equipment. The park has a six-lane mega ramp and two additional boat ramps on Lake Hartwell, but the official paddling page does not assign a fixed route, launch or takeout for every renter.

Season & current access

The park describes its kayak, canoe and paddleboard rentals as seasonal but does not publish a fixed opening calendar on the paddling page. Public lake access and any rental operation remain subject to park hours, lake conditions and staff direction.

Age, skill & route requirements

All renters must sign a waiver, and every participant must wear the provided safety equipment and PFD. The official page does not publish a minimum age or skill rating, so confirm the group's requirements directly and do not assume a first-time paddler will receive a guided trip.

This is self-directed flatwater paddling on Lake Hartwell, not a guided river route or shuttle trip. There is no fixed distance. Wind, boat wakes, weather, water level and the group's ability determine the practical route; remain within the limits given by park staff.

Fit it into a wine weekend

Make paddling the morning activity and finish, return equipment, change and eat before any wine visit. Use it with a Toccoa- or Elberton-side itinerary only after mapping the real drive from Lavonia.
