Use Toccoa for a history-and-wine weekend, or deliberately choose an Elberton-area lake base before you book. The two options offer different driving days.
Start with the season
For the Toccoa plan, begin at the Currahee Military Museum, have lunch and spend the afternoon at Currahee Vineyards. This avoids putting a long hot-weather outdoor outing immediately before a tasting reservation.
Wine is always in the plan
After lunch, make Currahee Vineyards the anchor of your tasting day. A single winery visit leaves time for the town and its history. Read the wine selections and visitor policies before reserving. This route works across the year when the venues are open; confirm the current schedule, arrange a sober driver and keep dinner unhurried.
One more local experience
If you chose the separate Elberton base, Richard B. Russell State Park offers a lake-focused morning when facilities are open, paired with Blue Cielo later. Keep all water activities before wine.
Keep the route comfortable
This itinerary uses Toccoa and one unhurried winery visit. Danielsville and Elberton are a different eastern loop; choose that base for Boutier or Blue Cielo instead.

Choose between Toccoa and the eastern lake circuit rather than combining both. Summer park access and water activities depend on current notices, weather and equipment availability.
If the weather changes
For either base, replace the lake with local history, shopping and an indoor meal. Keep a single winery visit as the afternoon anchor.
