Fall planning notes
Leaf color is variable and summit parking can be busy. Staffed services and the shuttle are seasonal, fees apply, and mountain weather can affect the road, trail and facilities; verify the official notice and leave extra road time. Downtown’s Pumpkin Hunt is published for October 31, 2026, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., with participation details still pending. Choose the town event instead of the summit morning if it suits the group. October 31, 2026 has a separate Family Glow Night, 6:30–9 p.m., after the daytime Pumpkin Hunt. Choose an unhurried town evening rather than adding a late cross-mountain drive. Vogel’s drained lake, loop trail and waterfall remain closed for dam work; generic park activity lists do not establish reopening. The Appalachian Brew & Music Festival is scheduled October 24, 2026, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. Treat the ticketed festival as the day’s main activity and arrange a non-driving plan after tastings. The Tin Can Tourists Vintage Trailer Show opens to the public November 7, 2026, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. Use it as a Hiawassee-side alternative and do not treat the show as lodging availability.

Choose downtown shopping and longer indoor tastings. A wet, icy or foggy summit morning is a reason to skip the climb rather than rush it before a reservation.
