Use only a currently open, weather-appropriate area at Vogel or linger over breakfast before departure. The Lake Trahlyta loop and waterfall are closed during dam repairs.
Keep the route comfortable
This route concentrates on Blairsville. Treat Hiawassee and Young Harris as an alternative base rather than adding every lake and winery to one day.
Winter planning notes
Cold weather can change mountain access quickly. Verify the dam-work closure, winter opening days, holiday closures and your lodging’s arrival instructions before the trip. The December 12, 2026 Cookie Crawl requires check-in by 1 p.m. Plan the ticketed town route and winery visit in separate, unhurried windows; confirm pickup details. Do not rely on the Holiday Night Market’s conflicting December 11/12 listings. Mountain Country Christmas remains a selected-night program from November 26 through December 31, with drive-through-only nights on December 24 and 26–31 and a December 25 closure. Choose an open block before building the Hiawassee evening. The Tour of Trees runs December 1–31 at the Union County Community Center with weekday-specific hours; the Hiawassee fairgrounds schedules New Year’s Eve fireworks for 8 p.m. after 6 p.m. parking. Choose one town cluster and recheck holiday access rather than combining Blairsville and Hiawassee late at night. Downtown Blairsville’s Holiday Night Market runs December 12, 2026, 5–9 p.m. The date field says Saturday while the body mistakenly says Friday, so use the explicit date and confirm the organizer’s update before making it the evening anchor.

Keep the weekend centered on Blairsville’s shops, meals and tasting rooms. Swap any outdoor portion for time at your accommodation when conditions warrant.
