Arrive & make yourself at home
Stay in Clayton or the nearby valley and have dinner downtown. Keep the arrival evening short if your lodging is up a winding mountain road.
Start with the season
Hike the 2.2-mile Tennessee Rock loop at Black Rock Mountain in the morning, checking the park gate and trail notice first. Descend, eat in Clayton, then spend the afternoon around the Tiger wineries.
Wine is always in the plan
After lunch, make Tiger Mountain Vineyards the anchor of your tasting day. Add Stonewall Creek Vineyards if the opening hours, journey and your group’s pace fit comfortably. Read the wine selections and visitor policies before reserving. This route works across the year when the venues are open; confirm the current schedule, arrange a sober driver and keep dinner unhurried.
One more local experience
Make Tallulah Gorge your departure-day outing. Check water-release dates first: they can be excellent for rim views but prevent gorge-floor hiking and climbing.
Keep the route comfortable
Build the tasting afternoon around Tiger. Visit Tallulah Gorge on the arrival or departure leg, and avoid adding remote forest-road vineyards to a tight schedule.
Fall planning notes
The Tennessee Rock route is foot travel only and can close for maintenance or inclement weather. The separate Ada-Hi Falls Trail is currently closed for stair repair; do not generalize that closure to Tennessee Rock without a park notice. Foxfire’s October 31, 2026 plant walk is a reserved 10 a.m.–noon alternative to the mountain hike, suitable for ages seven and older with uneven-ground limitations. Its October 24 bread-and-butter class runs 1–3 p.m. and replaces, rather than accompanies, that afternoon’s tasting schedule. The Northeast Georgia Arts Tour runs November 6–8 across five counties; use its current map to choose a compact Clayton–Rabun cluster rather than attempting the whole route. The Rabun Festival of Trees runs in separate November 27 and 28 blocks, and Christmas in Downtown Clayton follows from 5–8 p.m. November 27.
If the weather changes
Use Foxfire when suitable, or stay with Clayton shops and seated tastings. Tallulah’s interpretive center can supplement a short rim visit.
