After lunch, make Cavender Creek Vineyards the anchor of your tasting day. Add Wolf Mountain Vineyards if the opening hours, journey and your group’s pace fit comfortably. Read the wine selections and visitor policies before reserving. This route works across the year when the venues are open; confirm the current schedule, arrange a sober driver and keep dinner unhurried.

Choose Consolidated Gold Mine for a distinct underground experience before leaving. Check tour timing and stair requirements; allow enough time for the visit instead of treating it as a quick photo stop.

Fall planning notes
Gold Rush Days and leaf weekends can fill rooms and restaurant tables. Pick the festival or a longer mine visit as the main non-wine activity, with the other left optional. Cavender Creek requires ages 16+ and accepts no ordinary group reservations for tour buses or parties over eight; a contact-form inquiry is not a booking. Appalachian Outfitters now names October 16–17 as its final 2026 operating dates, overriding its generic October-weekends timetable. Do not substitute an unconfirmed late-October river trip.
If the weather changes
The Gold Museum and an indoor winery tasting make a workable rainy-day pair. The mine advertises rain-or-shine tours, but check the physical requirements before booking your group.
